Lumito’s SCIZYS® demonstrates an approximately tenfold wider PSA measurement range in a pilot study with a leading prostate cancer researcher
Lumito AB (publ) ("Lumito" or the "Company") announces today that the first part of the pilot project with Anders Bjartell, Professor of Urology at Lund University and a leading prostate cancer researcher, has been completed with very positive results. The study, conducted on lymph node samples from patients with prostate cancer, shows that Lumito’s SCIZYS® technology offers an approximately tenfold wider measurement range for the biomarker PSA (prostate-specific antigen) than the established reference method used in the study (chromogenic HRP/DAB). The wider measurement range enables the detection and measurement of both very low and high PSA levels in the same tissue sample. The results demonstrate the technology’s potential to provide researchers with a more nuanced picture of variations in biomarker expression in tissue, thereby strengthening the scientific basis for SCIZYS® and its relevance in cancer research and drug development.
The pilot project, announced in February 2026, aims to evaluate SCIZYS® for highly sensitive detection of cancer-related biomarkers in lymph node tissue, with the goal of improving the detection of metastatic spread in prostate cancer. The first phase of the study, which has now been completed, focused on analysing PSA in lymph node samples from patients with prostate cancer. The parties are currently discussing the next steps in their collaboration.
PSA is a well-established biomarker for prostate cancer and is commonly used in blood tests to monitor disease progression and response to treatment. In this study, PSA was analysed directly in lymph node tissue. PSA biomarker expression in lymph node tissue is present only in cases of metastatic spread of prostate cancer, but these tumors often exhibit biological heterogeneity, meaning that biomarker expression can vary considerably between different metastases in the same patient. To characterize these variations, researchers need analytical methods capable of measuring biomarkers across a wide range, from very low to high levels. The DAB-based reference method used in the study has a narrower measurement range, limiting its ability to capture the full variation in biomarker expression within the tissue.
The results thereby highlight an important potential benefit of SCIZYS® and strengthen Lumito’s ability to demonstrate how the technology can contribute to more advanced biomarker analysis in cancer research and drug development. Demonstrating a clear performance difference compared with a well-established reference method in a concrete study provides stronger scientific support for the technology’s differentiation and represents an important step towards establishing SCIZYS® for broader use in research and drug development.
“The results are very encouraging and significant. The ability to measure both high and low levels of PSA in the same tissue sample gives us a more complete and detailed picture of biomarker expression. This opens new opportunities to study biological variations within tissue and may contribute to a better understanding of how prostate cancer develops and spreads. The high image quality is another important strength,” says Anders Bjartell, Professor of Urology at Lund University.
“It is very positive that, together with Anders Bjartell and his research group, we have been able to demonstrate the ability of SCIZYS® to measure both very low and high levels of PSA in clinically relevant tissue samples. The fact that our technology offers a wider measurement range than the method used for comparison is particularly valuable, as it highlights an important technical advantage that gives researchers greater opportunities for advanced biomarker analysis. The results strengthen the scientific evidence supporting SCIZYS® and provide us with a clearer value proposition for potential customers and partners in research and drug development. This is an important step in our effort to translate the technology’s strengths into tangible customer benefits and long-term commercial opportunities,” says Sanna Wallenborg, CEO of Lumito.

About Lumito
Lumito develops and markets innovative technology that opens new possibilities for advanced tissue sample analysis in research, drug development and digital pathology.
The Company’s patented SCIZYS® platform is based on upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs), combining exceptionally high detection sensitivity with minimal background interference. This technology enables the identification and quantitative analysis of specific proteins in tissue – even at low levels that may be difficult to detect using conventional methods. The high signal stability and low background create the conditions for more detailed and reproducible tissue analysis.
SCIZYS® has the potential to contribute to the development from predominantly visual and semi-quantitative biomarker assessments towards more sensitive, objective and quantitative analysis. This can provide researchers with new tools to understand disease mechanisms, identify biomarkers and develop more individualized treatment strategies.
Lumito’s vision extends beyond today’s research applications. By unlocking more detailed information about biological processes, the Company aims to contribute to the development of precision medicine = where better pharmaceuticals, improved diagnostics and more informed treatment decisions can ultimately lead to enhanced patient outcomes and a more efficient use of healthcare resources.
