External study demonstrates new application areas for SCIZYS® in immunological research

Lumito AB (publ) (“Lumito” or the “Company”) highlights a recently published, peer-reviewed scientific study in which SCIZYS® has been used to analyse biomarkers in immune cells within a new research area. The study demonstrates an application of SCIZYS® in cell-based research and complements previous scientific documentation, where tissue samples have been the primary focus. The results thereby broaden the potential application areas of the technology and may, over time, create opportunities for additional research and commercial collaborations and applications.

In the study, SCIZYS® was used to analyse a type of immune cell that plays an important role in the body’s immune response and in the development of various skin diseases. Using the technology, the researchers were able to visualise and analyse biomarker expression in individual cells, demonstrating the platform’s potential also in cell-based research and other emerging areas of research.

For Lumito, the study is particularly significant as it provides additional external scientific documentation for SCIZYS®. The fact that independent researchers choose to use the technology in new applications strengthens knowledge of the platform’s utility across different research fields. Demonstrating the technology in the analysis of individual cells, in addition to tissue-based analysis, may over time broaden the addressable market for the technology and open up new user groups within academic research, drug development and precision medicine. At the same time, the study provides another example of how SCIZYS® can be used for advanced biomarker analysis. Each new external publication also strengthens the overall scientific evidence supporting future commercial use of the platform.

“This study is another example of how SCIZYS® is being used by independent researchers to investigate biological questions. It is particularly encouraging that the technology is now being demonstrated within a new research area and for the analysis of biomarkers in individual cells, in addition to the tissue samples that have so far been the primary focus for SCIZYS®. This broadens the technology’s potential application areas and strengthens the growing body of scientific evidence surrounding the platform. Each external scientific publication contributes to the scientific documentation and increases awareness of the technology’s potential applications. The continued choice of SCIZYS® by independent researchers in their work is a strong validation of the technology’s relevance and may contribute to increased interest from both the research community and commercial stakeholders”, says Sanna Wallenborg, CEO of Lumito.

Lumito and Truly Labs AB highlight advanced cell and tissue imaging
The study is part of the broader Biobarrier project, which was communicated in a press release on 10 September 2025, in which Lumito collaborates with academic and industrial partners in advanced biomarker analysis and research into biological barriers.

In the first week of October, Lumito AB, Truly Labs AB and the Biofilms Research Centre for Biointerfaces (BRCB) at Malmö University will host a seminar in Lund focusing on Advanced Tissue and Cell Imaging.

The programme will include presentations by, among others, Lumito’s founder and board member Stefan Andersson-Engels and Håkan Eriksson, co-author of the recently published study. Lumito’s team will be present throughout the seminar and the subsequent networking session, giving participants the opportunity to see a demonstration of SCIZYS® and discuss the technology’s potential in advanced cell and tissue imaging.

About Lumito
Lumito specialises in medical technology and translational research in digital tissue imaging. Lumito offers a groundbreaking, highly sensitive imaging technique to locate and measure protein biomarkers in tissue samples using up-converting nanoparticles (UCNPs) through its patented research platform. The technology combines image data with precise biomarker detection, enabling images with higher contrast where irrelevant background information is filtered out. The technique can enhance the analysis of tissue samples by increasing objectivity, thereby contributing to research for more quantifiable diagnoses and optimised treatments. Lumito primarily focuses on drug development and digital pathology and is a spin-off from a research group at Lund University's Department of Atomic Physics and Laser Center. www.lumito.se/en/
